PROSTHOTONTICS MSc PROGRAMME INFORMATION PACK
History: Prosthodontcis Master (MSc) programme has been founded in 2001 and gave its first MSc degree in 2003. Goal: The aim of the master program of the Department of Prosthodontics is to bring up dentists who are educated using contemporary and international opportunities, who can prepare the best treatment plan in dental soft and hard tissue losses and who can thoroughly manage oral rehabilitation. The Department of Prosthodontics MSc education provides the dentist with contemporary scientific developments in prosthodontics treatment and competency in clinical applications. Objective: The objective of the MSc program of the Department of Prosthodontics is to bring up dentists with the MSc degree who can successfully manage the diagnosis and treatment planning of prosthodontics patients and who strive to achieve continuous self-development. Qualification Awarded: The MSc’s Degree in Prosthodontics is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum. Level of Qualification: MSc degree, 2nd cycle Principles Related With Admission and Registration: Principles related with admission and registration to program is stated in Section 2: Principles Related with Admission and Registration of “Yeditepe University Graduate Training-Instruction and Examination Regulation”. Being graduated from Faculty of Dentistry. Principles Related with Recognition of Previous Education (formal, in-formal, non-formal): In Turkish Universities, the recognition of previous formal education and transfer is executed under the principles stated by “Graduate Training and Instruction Regulation- Clause 5. Transfer” issued by Turkish Higher Education Council and “Transfer Principles of Yeditepe University Senate”. Proficiency Requirements and Regulations: This department is subject to the first stage degree system having 120 ECTS credits in the field of the health counselling and guidance in higher education. The Students who successfully complete the lessons, begans thesis studies. A student registered in this MSc program has to write his/her thesis according to the rules determined by the Senate and present it for defence in front of a jury. The jury should be composed by five members, 3 of which being from the Thesis Monitoring Committee and at least one being a member from another University. The defense examination should take place at latest one month after thesis submission to the jury members. The examination consists of a thesis presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. At the end of the defense the jury deliberates and decides for an approval, revision or a failure according to the majority vote. At least 3 copies of the approved theses should be submitted to the Institute at latest one month after the defense date. For an approval with revisions decision, the properly revised thesis should be resubmitted and defended at latest 6 months later in front of the same jury members. In case of a failure thesis or failure of thesis defense after correction, students are given a new thesis topic. Program Profile: PHD Programme (1) gives students necessary knowledge and ability to perform both theorical and clinical applications in the field of Prosthodontics and (2) to graduate Prosthodontics for public health care organisations. Occupational Profiles of Graduates: Our graduates can mainly work in the Private or Public Health care corporations as well as continueing their academicals studies. In addition, they can be affiliated as a counselor; in the public sector, social and health institutions. Transition to Higher Degree Programs The graduates holding PhD Degree are eligible to continue their academic studies and become assistant professor, associated professor and professor. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”.
In addition the following abbreviations are used according to the status of the students: a) AU- Audit: Given to students who attend courses as an auditor. b) I – Incomplete: Given to students who are unable to complete the necessary work due to their valid excuses. These students have to complete the deficiencies required by an I grade by the last day of the add-drop period of the subsequent semester at the latest; upon completion of the deficiencies, the student receives the necessary grade, in case these deficiencies are not remedied by this date, the I grade of the student automatically converts to an FF. c) L – Leave: This is used for students who are on leave in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation. ç) NC – Non-Credit: Used for courses taken without credit. d) ND – Not Towards a Diploma (Non-Degree): Used for courses not towards receiving a diploma from Yeditepe University and are taken with or without credit and is not included in the grade average calculation. e) S- Satisfactory: Given to students who pass in courses taken without credit. f) U- Unsatisfactory: Given to students who fail in courses taken without credit. g) R – Repeat: Denotes that a course is repeated. ğ) RR – Repetition to Raise Grade (Repeat Resigned): Given for courses repeated to raise grades. h) T – Transfer: Given for courses which have been transferred from another program within or out of the higher education institution and the adjustment of which is approved by the related board of directors. The grades of the courses transferred within the higher education institution are included in the averages, those transferred from out of the higher education institution are not. ı) W – Withdrawal from a Course (Withdrawal): Is realized after the add/drop date each year, within the period specified in the academic calendar, with the approval of the advisor. i) X – In Progress (For Projects and Theses): Given to students who are continuing projects, thesis and similar work. At beginning of a semester the instructor for each course informs the students in writing on the weight of the grades on midterm examinations, semester final examinations, homework, practical applications and other activities, for which the student is responsible, within the semester grade. The weight of the grades on the midterm examination and other activities within the semester grades cannot be less than 30% and more than 70%. Grade must be at least CB at doctorate program. Other grades should be repeated. Graduation Conditions: There is not special term-end examination or final examination period which is required to be made at the end of the academic year or following the completion of the program to obtain the degree / complete the program. At the same time, at the end of every term, generally following the just the end of the term, there are two week term-end examinations. Also, for the graduation, it is required that the student should realize the requirements of the observation course in the schools and should realize 80 hour corporate internship successfully. The experiences to be obtained with the internships and required workload have been considered within the content, application and workloads of the related courses in the program. In Yeditepe University, Faculty of Dentistry where the program is associated with, there is a professors clinic, 1 faculty member clinic, 1 post-graduate clinic, 1 hard tissue lab, 1 soft-tissue lab and 1 library. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES 1: Getting the current information in the fields of Basic medicine, integrating basic medical sciences into clinical sciences and using this knowledge for all transactions related to the patient, practicing it in clinic practice, and finding scientific and ethical solutions to existing problems. 2: Using a critical approach to new ideas and making a scientific discussion, making effective communication skills and creating original creative hypothesis 3: Screening scientific article, analysis, synthesis and by synthesizing of the results implementing evidence-based dentistry. 4: Planning and making original issuable scientific research that can contribute to national and international science, analysing and evaluating the data and findings. 5: Requiring the technical equipment required for original scientific research and being able to use it. 6: Being able to prepare written and oral presentations in National and International areas (the ability to prepare doctoral thesis, papers and seminars) 7: To win professional and ethical responsibility, using the principles of ethical decision making and understand the importance of life-long professional learning and embrace the importance of controls after prosthetic treatment. 8: The diagnosis of oral health-related prosthetic problems and the failures in clinical and radiological way and being able to solve by planning teamwork.
